I'm writing again--as C.S. Lewis once said to J.R.R. Tolkien “If they won't write the kind of books we like to read, we shall have to write them ourselves.” I have decided that rather than go through the agony and misery of publishers, agents, editors, and rejection letters, only to be forced to sign away most of the rights and proceeds to them in the end, I'm going to publish serially on substack. If it finds any degree of success, somewhere down the road I'll create a physical edition myself via kickstarter.
It doesn't really have a genre. You could call it historical weird fiction, I suppose. It's set in 18th century Virginia, written in the form of a memoir, like Daniel Defoe or Robert Louis Stevenson. It's old-fashioned adventure, with elements of the supernatural and a bit of gothic horror. Think Last of the Mohicans meets a Robert Eggers film, like The VVitch. If that sort of thing interests you, I would appreciate your support.
